HEALTHY SELF LOVE

Often times we are taught to show love to people, be kind to people, respect people and care for people. One scripture that often comes to mind is the fact that we are commanded to love our neighbors as ourselves. Very fine!
Using 'as' as the keyword, you are to love your neighbor AS yourself.
The truth is if you don't love yourself, you can not have the capacity to love others. You can't give what you don't have.
Healthy relationships are made of two people who love themselves and then love each other as much as they love their very own self.
Self love makes you develop a sense of worth and healthy self esteem. Self love is what makes you decide not to smoke or take alcohol understanding the damage it can do to your body. Self love is what makes you dress modestly and decently because you understand how valuable and precious your body is.
Self love is what makes you pull out of an abusive relationship knowing you deserve the best rather than managing because you love the person and would be glad to marry the person because you can't imagine life without him/her. Self love is what makes you as a lady to keep yourself from sexual immoralities because at the end you might suffer the damage and shame alone. Self love makes you zip up as a man because you understand your seeds are too precious to be wasted!
Self love is what makes you look into the mirror and smile because you are fearfully and wonderfully made, not until you hear that from others. Self love is what makes you believe exactly what God has said concerning you,not bothering about your present state because you see yourself in the light of God's (your Maker) word.
Self love is what makes you dress nicely, go out and give yourself a very nice treat without waiting for anyone to do that for you. Self love is what makes you pamper yourself after a job well done, you don't need to wait for someone to take you to the movies or a restaurant. It teaches you to also get yourself gifts on special occasions or events like your birthday. Self love teaches you to treat your own self with kindness and respect.
There is a thin line between self love, selfishness and pride. Be sure not to cross it!
We all need a HEALTHY dose of self love.
