He feels sorry for her because he sees so much fear on her face,  fear of loosing him.  Pitifully he says "is that what you want? OK let's do it".  The lady hurries in and comes out in no distant time,  "it's just a simple thing,  nothing occultic".
She brings out a new blade,  makes a small cut  on her tumb & his while a drop of blood comes out of both hands. "Now promise me under no circumstances will you leave me or marry any other woman" ..... 
(I'm not recounting a story,  I'm using life scenario to explain this topic till we lunch in fully)
